双J出击-周杰伦 VS 林俊杰

双J出击!! 周杰伦's 《魔杰座》 VS 林俊杰's 《陸》

+What better way to end the long summer draught of good albums is there when you get two fantastic albums from two amazing composer/singer artistes, released one week from each other? It's more than a fan of good music could ask for. So, with so many similarities between the two mega-stars-both are composers, singers, actors, name starts with J-who fares better in this ultimate showdown?

+Jay Chou's Capricorn first. Look at the Album art! It's amazing! So much effort was put into making the cover wonderful. The marketing strategy for this particular album was also very gimmicky-I mean, free Jay Chou's Rubik's cube? Free Jay Chou Poker Cards? Free MV DVD? Since when has Jay become like that? Marketing strategy aside, what's more important is that the album lives up to it's amazing cover art and gimmicks. Does it?

+At first listen, it is indeed disappointing. There are lesser slow and touching tracks, and the fast tracks don't quite measure up to his previous fast numbers. But what are we comparing this album to? That's right, his last album, which was insanely good from the first track to the last track.

+However, upon closer listening, I found that a number of songs are quite 耐听. The replay value of this album is high high high. Once again, Jay has worked his magic through his tracks and (although they are still not as good as songs from the last album) these songs will top the chart.

+Recommended: 給我一首歌的時間, 魔術先生, 說好的幸福呢, 時光機 and 稻香. Overall: 4/5

+Now to local singer, JJ's SIXOLOGY. The album art at first glance looks so kiddish! Did my favourite singer just did a Cyndi Wang? Browsing through the whole album proved me wrong, as the theme of this album was more of street art, graffiti and the like. It was the first time, JJ did something so...colourful. If you look back, all his albums were in the colour scheme of black, white or grey. So this album was really refreshing in terms of the packaging.

+15 tracks, no gimmicks, just music. This album, similarly, also has more fast tracks, that is, if you discount the 3 tracks previously released (namely 點一把火炬 , 期待愛 [without the annoying 金莎, thank god!] and 愛與希望). The fast tracks in this album are those kind of heart-thumping, i-mean-business rapping songs. Hell, he collaborated with HK's FAMA and MACHI, that should mean something. The rock song 黑武士, lyrics by Mayday's 阿信, is definitely a must-listen.

+The slow songs in this album are touching and sweet. 小酒窩 (feat. TWINS' 阿Sa) is nice and makes a nice KBOX duet. In my opinion, although both 金莎and 阿Sa are equally annoying, 阿Sa has a better voice that works with JJ. 醉赤壁, a joint effort by 方文山 and JJ, is a 中国风song which is a heart-wrenching ballad. Wait a minute, Jay also has a 中国风song written with 方文山! Take a listen, compare JJ's 醉赤壁 and Jay's 蘭亭序, and feel for yourself who is better.

+Recommended tracks:小酒窩, 醉赤壁, 黑武士, 我還想她 and Cries in a Distance. Overall: 4/5

+Lastly, please purchase their albums if you really want to support them!

P.S. The erhu in 醉赤壁 was performed by Mr Lum, for those who know him.
